Dear California State Senators,
Please vote YES on AB 17 to give California students affordable and reliable choices for getting around.
AB 17 will provide $20 million per year to create a statewide local student transit pass program to help fund discounted student transit passes for middle-school, high school, and public college and university students.
We support AB 17 because we must increase transit ridership if California is going to reduce traffic and fulfill our State's commitment to reducing carbon and fulfilling the agreed upon reductions in the Paris Climate Accord. Student passes have been shown to significantly increase student ridership and to significantly reduce the cost of an education—as well as greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
Key supporters of AB 17 include Move LA, Transform, the Student Senate of California Community Colleges, Teamsters, California Faculty Association, Natural Resources Defense Council, Coalition for Clean Air, American Lung Association, and the California Bicycle Coalition.
We are counting on your support for AB 17 to provide a transit pass program for California’s hard-working students and as a tool for fighting climate change.
