He praises the Gold Line but says the San Gabriel Valley needs more and that it should be extended to Claremont and Montclair and then to Ontario. Construction of Phase 2 of the Gold Line has been divided into two stages. The line is being extended now to Azusa; Phase 2 to Claremont faces political and financial hurdles, and there is no plan on paper yet to extend the line to Ontario. Gatto says rail serves less than a third of the valley's 550,000 residents.
