With hundreds of millions of federal and state money coming to Southern California to plan and build housing that reduces vehicle miles traveled, we have a unique opportunity to leverage enhanced finance infrastructure districts, landing banking, and transit oriented development to build more housing near transit. This program will dig into opportunities to create Boulevards of Equity and Opportunity’s with high quality Bus Rapid Transit or rail and medium density, mixed-used housing along major corridors and downtowns without displacing our most vulnerable residents. Move LA has been working on this idea for several years; in 2018, Move LA sponsored SB 961 (Allen) which created a new type of Enhanced Infrastructure Finance District that would fund transit and affordable housing (NIFTI-2), and in 2020 Move LA hosted a forum on this topic with one of our largest audiences ever. With this program, we hope to give an update on the opportunities in Southern California to create affordability, sustainability, and livability for everyone to thrive.
