California has made important progress meeting the challenge of climate change
—and can continue to show the world a way forward.
HEADING TOWARD SUCCESS #1
100% clean and renewable power by 2045. We are already halfway there.
HEADING TOWARD SUCCESS #2
California’s goal of 5 million zero-emission vehicles on our roads by 2030 and 100% of new cars and light-duty trucks zero-emission by 2035 is doable. Significant progress has been made in both product development and sales.
Below are our biggest remaining emission reduction challenges
for clean air and a healthy climate:
How do we quickly and dramatically reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants—aka Super Pollutants? These gases are more powerful climate-forcers than CO2 and therefore should be the very highest priority.
How do we fully and finally clean up heavy-duty, diesel-powered, mostly goods movement sector - long-haul trucks, trains, ships, planes, port and construction equipment?
And what could we do if California voters approved $70B+ over the next two decades to fight for clean air and abate climate change? Perhaps all of the above.

Diesel-powered trucks, trains, ships, planes,
and equipment are our most toxic clean air challenge
and a huge climate challenge. Big-time solutions are emerging,
so how can we help accelerate their adoption?
