MOVE LA & MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA HELP LAUNCH LOCAL TRANSIT INITIATIVE IN CHICAGO WITH MAYOR EMMANUEL

Move LA's Denny Zane and Gloria Ohland traveled to Chicago last week to work with the Center for Neighborhood Technology on launching a transit initiative with the help of LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel and Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle. The campaign, called "Transit Future," is urging the Cook County board to consider creating a new revenue stream that would allow the city to leverage public and private sector investment in its transit system — much as LA Metro has with Measure R — to pay for big-ticket items such as the long-sought extension of the CTA's Red Line to the far South Side.

Zane and Villaraigosa spoke with the Chicago Tribune's editorial board, and then addressed 200 people attending the gala launch at the University Club on Michigan Avenue overlooking Millennium Park and Lake Michigan. The event was covered by the Chicago Tribune, and within 4 days the "Transit Future" website had 75,000 hits.
