We are thrilled to invite you to our first Festival Trail community “charette” at the Pico House on February 28th, 2025, from 1-4:30. The Festival Trail is partnership between Move LA, Agency: Artifact, FASTLinkDTLA, Somos, and Spherical Studio, with support from the California Community Foundation.

The LA2028 Paralympic and Olympic Games, as well as other regional mega-events, create the opportunity to transform the way that the world sees Los Angeles County—not as merely a car-centric, disconnected group of 88 cities but rather as an interconnected mega-region leading the nation with cultural diversity, equity, sustainability, a local economy-focused approach, universal accessibility to all ages and mobility abilities, and an inspired and innovative active transportation, zero-emission transit-based infrastructure network that will uplift all of Los Angeles County.

To achieve these outcomes, the Festival Trail is a community-based initiative of Move LA, FASTLinkDTLA, Agency Artifact, Somos Group, LA Commons, LA Neighborhood Initiative, and the California Community Foundation to create a seamless 28-mile long non-vehicular, zero-emission corridor/trail connecting all the major Olympic venues from LAX to the Rose Bowl through Downtown LA and out to the Sepulveda Basin along the LA River. 95% of the 28 miles linked together by the Festival Trail is already funded and in progress by Metro, LADOT, Caltrans and SCAG. This project also seeks to create an authentic, affordable, and safe experience of Los Angeles for residents and visitors alike during mega events.

Our charettes are community-driven collaborative planning effort to design, fund, and implement projects in public spaces to create lasting, multi-modal, and equitable benefits for mega-events like the World Cup, Paralympics, Olympics, and beyond. The questions we plan to address are: What does a legacy from the mega-events coming to the region look like? How can we ensure long term community ownership and maintenance of the investments made through the Festival Trail Initiative? What would a public space in the neighborhood look like? How do we plan for it?

We’ll have plenty of snacks, coffee, and drinks available throughout the event. Invitations will be shared with key government agencies, elected offices, community organizations, and individual community leaders. We anticipate 40 attendees. We will host an offsite reception with light refreshments and drinks to close the day.
