Move LA Announces Its First Ever Transit Marathon, an 18-Hour Ride Celebrating Southern California Transit

LOS ANGELES, CA —October 7, 2026 — Move LA is closing out SoCal TransitMonth with its first ever Transit Marathon: an ambitious, community-powered 18-hour transit ride across Southern California.

Participants are invited to join Move LA for all or part of the route, experience the breadth of the region’s public transportation network, meet fellow transit supporters, and raise funds to advance Move LA’s work for equitable, affordable, sustainable, and accessible transportation and communities.

The Transit Marathon is the final event of SoCal Transit Month, bringing together riders, advocates, community members, and transit enthusiasts for a day-long celebration of public transportation and Clean Air Day. The ride will travel across the region by transit, highlighting the connections and the continued need for investment that make opportunity, housing, jobs, education, and community life more accessible without relying on a car.

“Public transit connects people to the places and opportunities that shape their lives,” said Eli Lipmen of Move LA. “Our first Transit Marathon is both a celebration of the system riders use every day and a call to keep building a transportation future that is affordable, reliable, safe, and accessible for everyone.”

Riders can participate as individual fundraisers to support Move LA’s advocacy, organizing, and coalition-building work. Funds raised through the Transit Marathonwill help Move LA continue advancing policies and projects that expand transitaccess, support transit riders, promote affordable homes near transit, improve mobility, and strengthen communities throughout Southern California.

The full 18-hour Transit Marathon route is available on the attached map. Participants are encouraged to review the route and schedule in advance, come prepared for a full day of riding, and join at the portion of the marathon that works best for them.
