Angelenos Ride Public Transit for Inaugural SoCal Transit Week
Los Angeles - Thousands of Southern Californians are participating in unique opportunities to explore and celebrate transit in the region as part of the inaugural SoCal Transit Week (ending October 6, 2024)! Transit agencies, advocates, and community groups throughout the region have come together to host this special week and invite residents and the media to check out various fun events. Organizers have put together more than 20 events from “Free Fare Day” to “Dance Cardio Without the Car” to celebrate California Clean Air Day and the Week Without Driving.
Together, thousands of transit-dependent riders, people with disabilities, seniors, students, and low-income workers are showing that millions of people ride public transit every day—without incident—throughout Southern California. Coming together to celebrate the joy of public transit, SoCal Transit Week is making a difference in cleaning our air, addressing climate change, and creating healthier and safer communities.

Through our app, users can log transit actions, track their reduced vehicle miles traveled, and see their impact in real time — and get a chance to win some extra special prizes. Not only does that help Los Angeles reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, but it also promotes personal health by encouraging more active, stress-free commuting options,” said CEO and co-founder, Gayatri Roshan. Dashboard.Earth is the technology partner for SoCal Transit Week and is awarding prizes to users who log their transit trips on their app.
We are excited to partner with Move LA in supporting the first-ever SoCal Transit Week initiative," said Tony Lucas, Executive Director, UCLA Events & Transportation. "Thousands of UCLA students, faculty, and staff rely on public transit for their daily commutes to our campus and beyond. Providing accessible and sustainable transportation options for all Bruins is a core objective of our department, made possible through the strong partnerships we’ve built with the many public transit agencies serving UCLA and Westwood. Because of these collaborations, our campus community is better connected to greater Los Angeles. This week, let’s not only promote transit use but also express our gratitude to our transit customers, internal transit team, and external agency partners for keeping UCLA moving."
